Marlene Theresa Nickaboine

Funeral services for Marlene Theresa Nickaboine, (Wah-sahg-gah-be-quay), age 73, of Mora, formerly of Milaca and the Mille Lacs Reservations, will be held on Monday, January 10, 2011 at 10 AM at the Mille Lacs Community Center with Lee Staples officiating. Interment will follow at Vineland Cemetery. Wake will begin at 4 PM on Sunday, January 9 at the Mille Lacs Community Center. Casketbearers will include Mannie Kegg, Tyson Nickaboine, Oley Nickaboine, Jr. , Tim Weyaus, Thomas W. Mitchell and Jeremy Nickaboine. Honorary casketbearers will include Ronda Bjornson-Main, Brittany Kroon, Steve Hoosline, Melissa Harlan, Shannon Novak, Sue Nelson, Theresa Severson and Diane Marquart. Arr. Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home of Milaca. Marlene Theresa Nickaboine was born July 26, 1937 in Vineland, MN to Frank and Sadie (Garbow) Nickaboine. She will be remembered for having a great love of life and she touched many peoples hearts. She enjoyed bingo, socializing with friends and singing. She was fluent in her native Ojibway language, something she never forgot over the years. She died on Thursday, January 6, 2011 in Mora, MN. She is survived by brother, Oley Nickaboine; sister, Evelyn Nickaboine Kegg; special friends, Pam Jindra and her family; also by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Margaret and Marian and brothers, Mike, Alvin and Alfred.
