Funeral services for Harold P. Pluimer, age 90, of Milaca, will be held Thursday, February 03, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at the Christian Reformed Church in Pease with Pastor Mark Pluimer, Pastor Joy Bonnema, Pastor Tom Sahlstrom, and Pastor David Smit officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 02, 2011 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the church and also one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday morning. Music will be provided by Heather Pluimer, Christina VanderPol, his great-grandchildren, and Dorothy Brink. Casketbearers will include Les Lively, Chad Bonnema, Curt Hewitt, Terry Kragt, Mike Pluimer, and Mark Pluimer. Burial will take place in the Pease Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Hansen-Hayes American Legion Post #178 and Siemers-Hakes VFW Post #10794.
Harold Peter Pluimer was born February 26, 1920 in Pease, Minnesota to Nick and Lammie (Van Dalen) Pluimer. He grew up in Pease and attended Milaca High School, where he graduated in 1938. He was united in marriage to Alice Nyenhuis on June 21, 1943 in Pease. He received his B.S. Degree from Saint Cloud (Minnesota) State College, and his M.A. from the University of Minnesota. He served in the United States Army in World War II and the Korean Conflict.
Harold was an instructor with the Princeton School District for five years, Maynard School District for one year, and was the principal in the Renville School District for three years.
He was employed as senior lecturer for NASA and was also a traveling science teacher. For many years he was self-employed as a writer, speaker, and consultant.
Harold loved golfing with his grandsons, splitting wood, reading, traveling, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
He passed away Sunday, January 30, 2011 at the Milaca Elim Home at the age of 90 years, 11 months, and 4 days.
He is survived by wife, Alice, of Milaca; children, Dennis (Sheri) Pluimer of Willmar, Minnesota and Mary (Les) Lively of Hood River, Oregon; grandchildren, Joy (Chad) Bonnema of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Mike (Heather) Pluimer of Raymond, Minnesota, Mark (Laurie) Pluimer of Appleton, Wisconsin, Lisa (Ed Thomsen) Reimer of Papua, New Guinea, Jessica and Jennifer Lively of Portland, Oregon; great-grandchildren, Mike Pluimer, Jr., Maddie Pluimer, Meikea Bonnema, and Ethan John Pluimer; sister, Grayce Hewitt of Milaca, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Tillie Pluimer of Milaca, Minnesota.
Harold was preceded in death by parents, and children, Linda and Ronnie, both one year of age; brother, Don; and brother-in-law, Cecil.
