Funeral services for Emily Baas, age 96, of Milaca, will be held on Monday, March 14 at 11 AM at the Christian Reformed Church in Pease with Pastor David Smit and Pastor Tom Sahlstrom officiating. Interment will follow at the Pease Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 – 7 PM on Sunday, March 13 at the Christian Reformed Church in Pease and 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Music will be provided by Lois Roelofs. Her grandchildren will serve at casketbearers. Arr. Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home of Milaca.
Emily M. Baas was born January 28, 1915 in Fenton, Iowa to Albert and Grace (Janssen) Kromminga. Growing up she attended the Pease School, Princeton High School and Normal Teacher’s Training. She was united in marriage to Clarence Baas on November 2, 1937 in Pease, MN. She made her home in the Pease area most of her life. Emily taught at Zuni Mission School in New Mexico for two years and also taught at the Pease Christian School and many other country schools. She was a life long member of the Christian Reformed Church in Pease where she served on the Ladies Aid, Mother’s Club and the Pease Church Mission Society. Emily enjoyed singing and will be remembered for her love of family and her love for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In her later years she enjoyed volunteering, crossword puzzles and bowling. She passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at the Milaca Elim Home.
She is survived by her children, Jerome (Peggy) Baas of Milaca, Calvin (Krista) Baas of Coon Rapids and Sue (Phil) Terborg of Princeton; son-in-law, Jake Roest of Battle Ground, WA; daughter-in-law, Judy Baas of Ramsey; 14 grandchildren, Dawn (Rob) Spangler, Carla (Tim) Baumann, Cindy (Tony) TeVogt, Candy (Norm) Motter, Kim (Dan) Lanning, Barry (Amy) Baas, Kristy (Randy) Bogard, Jeremy (Kathy) Baas, Faith (Scott) Meyer, Jason (Christie) Roest, Nate (Nikki) Terborg, Katie Baas, Lisa (Ben) Curtis and Kyle Terborg; 27 great-grandchildren; also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence in 1999; daughter, Cel Roest; son, Duane Baas; granddaughter, Amy Terborg; brother, Reinder Kromminga and sisters, Minnie Johnson, Lena Byl and Jennie Baas.
