Mass of Christian Burial for Mark Coleman, age 82, of Milaca, will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at 11 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Milaca with Fr. James Remmerswaal, OSC and Fr. Tony Oelrich officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by Hansen-Hayes American Legion Post #178 and Siemers-Hakes VFW Post #10794. Visitation will be from 4 – 7 PM on Monday and 1 hour prior to the service both at St. Mary’s Church. A service will be held at 7PM on Monday night at St. Mary’s Church. Music will be provided by Pat Coffee. Casketbearers will include Roger Loegering, Tim Ziegler, Al Gruba, Keith Haman, Dean Gould and Dan Moscho. His grandchildren will serve as honorary casketbearers. Arr. Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home of Milaca.
Mark J. Coleman Jr. was born November 1, 1928 in Minneapolis, MN to Mark and Genevieve (Flynn) Coleman. He grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from North High School. He served in the Navy Reserves from 1949 to 1957. He was united in marriage to Amy Kary on October 12, 1957 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in St. Paul, MN. From 1957 to 1975, Mark served in the US Coast Guard and earned the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer. During this time, Mark and his family lived at many Coast Guard bases around the United States. In 1975, they moved to Milaca, MN. Mark worked at Vision Ease Corp. in St. Cloud until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Milaca where he was a prayer group leader, a member of the Knights of Columbus and a past leader of Tech and Koinonia. Mark was also a member of the Milaca American Legion. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and teaching them to fish. He died on Tuesday, April 19 at his home in Milaca.
He is survived by his wife, Amy; children, Mary Jo (Jim) Otten of Milaca, Steve (Joyce) Coleman of Sauk Rapids and Anne Coleman of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Julie Herbst, David Herbst, Chris Herbst, Bryan Herbst, Tina (Kurt) Scepaniak and Matt Coleman; great-grandchildren, Josh, Damien, Katelynn, Gavin and Parker; sister, Donna Burmaster of Burnsville; also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Kathryn, Winnifred and Phyllis and brother, Robert.
