Funeral services for Elvira Bruss, age 90, of North Branch, formerly of Isanti, will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 2011 at 1 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Milaca with Rev. Gary Fehring officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Milaca. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Casketbearers will include Randy Eakin, Darren Bruss, Barry Bruss, Brian Erickson, Steve Bruss ,Jr. ,and Jason Bruss. Honorary casketbearers will be all of her grandchildren. Elvira Helen Bruss was born January 7, 1921 to Hugo and Mathilda (Bendix) Marquardt in Echo, MN. On May 2, 1937, Elvira was united in marriage to Marvin Bruss in Echo, MN. She worked outside her home at Campbell’s Soup Co, Isanti News, Good Samaritan Home and cleaned homes and offices. Elvira was a hard worker and she loved to cook, can and bake. She loved to dance to polka music. She enjoyed vacationing in a cabin at various lakes in Minnesota. She cleaned and cooked more wild game and fish than most people have ever seen. Her family was very important to her and she enjoyed visiting relatives and having slumber parties with her sisters. She also played a lot of cards with her relatives when they visited. Elvira made several quilts for her grandchildren. She was very unselfish and honest, always putting others first. She never needed material things to make her happy. She died Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Sweet Living Assisted Living in North Branch. She is survived by her children, Bonnie (Dale) Eakin of Spirit Lake, IA, Wayne (Linda) Bruss of Cambridge, Steve Bruss of Princeton, and Debbie Kordell of Stacy; 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Irene Hahn of Wadena and Lois Mueller of New Ulm; also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; son, James; daughter, Marlis; grandson, Jimmy; brothers, Elmer, Lester, Wilbert, Herbert, Gerald “Swede”, and Warren and sisters, Verna, Velma, Hilda, Dorothy, Adeline and Edna.
