James Alfred Meleen

Memorial services for James Meleen, age 77, of Crosby, formerly of Onamia, will be held on Saturday, October 22 at 11 AM at Crosby Assembly of God. Interment will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Milaca at a later date. James Alfred Meleen went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 13, 2011 at the age of 77. Jim was born on September 14, 1934 to Carl and Opal (Dahl) Meleen in Milaca, Minnesota. He attended school in Milaca graduating from Milaca High School in 1952. Jim served in the United States Army during the Korean War, and was honorable discharged in 1955. He attended the University of Minnesota for two years and in 1962 married Norma Stauffenecker. He resided in Brooklyn Park until 1968 where he was the district sales manager and Central United States sales trainer for American Can Consumer Products Division. In 1969, Jim was transferred to Grand Rapids, Michigan. Jim became the manufactures representative for police radar with Kustom Electronics. With this company, Jim wrote the original training program for law enforcement officers in conjunction with the Michigan State Police and Michigan State University. In 1996, Jim retired and returned to Onamia, Minnesota where he spent time fishing and deer hunting. In 2004, Jim moved to Ironton, MN to be closer to his fishing grounds. He was an active member of the Crosby Assembly of God Church. Survivors include, 4 children, Martin (Ellen) Meleen of L’Anse, MI, Karla Boyd of Brainerd, MN, Mitchell (Tammy) Meleen of Tampa, FL, and Matthew Meleen of Austin, TX, 2 grandchildren, Tara and Derek Meleen, 1 sister, Elaine (Lloyd) Benson of White Bear Lake, MN, and 2 brothers, Dick (Ruth) Meleen of Princeton, MN and Jerry (Judy) Meleen of Foreston, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Burton, and sister, Beverly.
