Marlyn Lanora Watson

Funeral services for Marlyn Watson, age 84, of Milaca, will be held on Monday, November 21, 2011 at 11 AM at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Bock with Rev. Beverly Robinson officiating. Interment will follow at Borgholm Cemetery near Bock. Visitation will be from 3 – 6 PM Sunday at Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Music will be provided by Cheryl Bailey. Casketbearers will include Derrick Watson, Bridget Maki, Launa Paumen, Vance Roelofs, Dustin Watson, Josh Watson, Jeff Watson and Holly German. Arr. Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home of Milaca. Marlyn Lanora Watson was born September 9, 1927 in Chamberlain, SD to John and Iris (Dempsey) Matthei. As a young girl she moved with her family to Canistota, SD, where she grew up and attended school. She was united in marriage to Merle Watson on June 18, 1947 in Canistota, SD and they were blessed with eight children. The couple farmed near Canistota, SD before moving to a farm north of Bock, MN in 1956. Marlyn worked for Fingerhut, Milaca Mills and many cafes in the Milaca area. She later worked as a professional bus driver and drove for many years. Marlyn was an active member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church where she quilted, worked in the kitchen and was a member of the LCW. She enjoyed crocheting, taking care of her flowers, playing cards and making quilts for her grandchildren. Marlyn liked to visit people who were unable to get out and help them do odd jobs. She died on Thursday, November 17, 2011 at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina. She is survived by children, Lanora Anderson of Pahrump, NV, Gloria (Verlin) Roelofs of Delano, Judy (David) Evenson of Crystal, John (Shirley) Watson of Princeton, James (Robin) Watson of Stanchfield, Merle Watson of Columbia Heights and David (Joy) Watson of Brainerd; 15 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; special friend, Richard Minks; siblings, Irene (Melvin) Fluth of Bridgewater, SD, Evelyn Schwartzman of Kirby, MO, Alice (Don) Laufman of Canistota, SD, Delores Matthei of Madison, SD, Dale (Cookie) Matthei of Black River Falls, WI, Lyle (Joan) Matthei of Salem, SD , Helen (Gene) Kirshman of Sioux Falls, SD and Carolyn Matthei of Las Vegas, NV; also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merle; daughter, Lisa Marie; brothers, Marvin and Ralph and son-in-law, Delray Anderson.
