Funeral services for Roger Mathison, age 59, of Milaca, will be held on Friday, December 9, 2011 at 11 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Milaca. Interment will follow at Brookside Cemetery near Milaca. Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM Thursday at Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca and 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Military honors will be provided by Hansen-Hayes American Legion Post #178 and Siemers-Hakes VFW Post #10794. Serving as casketbearers will be Dick Stewart, Don Stob, Johnny Ashton, Sammy Vander Plaats, Jason Renner, and Alex Nelson.
Roger Wayne Mathison was born July 24, 1952 to Kenneth and Stella (Kiel) Mathison in Milaca, Minnesota. He graduated from Centennial High School. After high school, he entered the Air Force and served in Japan during the Vietnam War. He was united in marriage to Margaret Wearn on September 6, 1975 in Milaca. Roger worked at Nelson’s Nursery in Zimmerman. He then later worked as a cabinet maker for Crystal Cabinets in Princeton for 24 years.
He was a church softball umpire for 25 years. Roger also enjoyed deer and bear hunting and fishing. He was always thinking of others. He loved his family.
Roger passed away Monday, December 5, 2011 at his residence.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Margaret, of Milaca; mother, Stella; sons, Lee (Julie) Whitney and Erik Mathison (April Patchen); daughter, Laurie Mathison (Paul Harren); grandchildren, Jordan, Dylan, Avree, McKenna, Alex, Danae, Ashley; two sisters, Bev (Keith) Henrichs and Pat (Brian) Buss; four brothers, Robert, Ron (Gayle), Richard (Nancy), and Randy (Gayle); many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, sister, Barbara, and niece, Amy.
