A visitation for Angeline Bates, age 101, of Milaca, will be held on Monday, January 2, 2012 from 1 -2 PM at Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca. Interment will follow at 2 PM at Forest Hill Cemetery in Milaca.
Angeline Betsy Bates was born April 23, 1910 in Excelscior Township, Dickenson County, IA to James and Barbara (Main) Thorn. She attended school in Excelscior, IA. She married Wilbur “Bill” Bates on November 27, 1927 and to this union one daughter, Marcelle, was born. The couple farmed in northwest Iowa in the mid-1930’s. During this time they also owned and operated a bakery. In 1945, they moved to Spencer, IA. In 1948, they moved to a farm north of Milaca, MN. Angeline worked at the Sunlight Bakery until her retirement in 1972. Angeline enjoyed bowling, baking and birdwatching. She died on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at the Princeton Elim Home.
She is survived by grandson, Barton (Cindi) Naumann of Foreston; great-grandchildren, Derrick (Sarah) Naumann of Foreston, Dustin (Whitney) Naumann of Milaca, Dillon Naumann of Foreston and Danielle Naumann of Foreston; great-great-granddaughter, Sidney; sisters, Ardith Ehret of Lake Park, IA and Helen Carlberg of Scotts Valley, CA; also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilbur; daughter, Marcelle “Sally” Naumann; son-in-law, Edward Naumann; brothers, Frank, Virgil, Roy, Joe, Mike, Jim and Paul and one sister, Emma.
