Esther Johnson

Esther Johnson, age 84, of Milaca, formerly of Osakis passed away Monday, February 6, 2012 surrounded by family members at the Milaca Elim Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 10, 2012 at 10 AM at Milaca Elim Home Chapel with Rev. Tom Sahlstrom officiating. Interment will be at 1 PM Friday the Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery near Osakis. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Elim Home Chapel on Friday. Casketbearers are Roger Helms, Jr, Tina Goskey, Cathie Moser, Shawn Moser, Josh Williams, Jeremy Wheelhouse, and Jesse Johnson. Esther Johnson was born to Mary (Phipps) and Jake Lynch on September 27, 1927 in Burlene Township, Todd County, Minnesota. She married Ivan Johnson on June 28, 1947 at Osakis. To this union nine children were born. Esther enjoyed her flowers and large vegetable gardens. While her children were growing she canned many of the garden vegetables and purchased fruits. Reading was a relaxing hobby that she enjoyed for many years. While at Elim Home her favorite activities were bingo and the social hour. She is survived by her children, Faye (Roger) Helms of Kerkhoven, Darrell of Auburn, WA, Tilly (Chet) Bergstrom of Milaca, Jeanette Moser (Dennis Nelson) of Milaca, Genny Johnson (Mark Studinski) of Milaca, Michael (Ebbie) of Gautier, MS, Everett of Tempe, AZ and Arvilla (Joe) Wheelhouse of Rapid City, SD; 20 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, also many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1994, son Rodney in 1998, three grandchildren, three sisters and five brothers. The family would like to thank the staff of Elim Home for their loving care while Esther resided at the home.
