Dorothy Rohloff passed away March 18, 2012 at the age of 90 years at Mille Lacs Long Term Care. She was born to Tony and Amanda Jindra on August 18th, 1921 in Dailey Township, Onamia, Minnesota. Dorothy attended country school in District 56, which was on land her father had donated to the District at its inception. She graduated from Onamia High School in 1939 and went on to college in St Cloud where she became an elementary school teacher. Dorothy taught several years in Mille Lacs County and other areas before going to Brainerd as a first grade teacher for 5 years. There she met her husband Bill and they were married in 1952.
In that era Brainerd did not employ married teachers and Dorothy had to quit her job teaching. So the young couple moved back to Dailey Township to work the farm she had grown up on. There they remained for over 50 years to farm and raised their 3 children. Dorothy also did substitute teaching locally.
Dorothy loved Mother Nature, the woods, wild flowers and gardening. She had bouquets of flowers on her table from early April to late October. She loved sports and followed the Twins and Vikings faithfully. Dorothy was an avid card player throughout her life and in younger days loved to dance. In later years she crocheted afghans for all ten of grandchildren. Dorothy & family drove the Alcan Highway to Alaska in 1969 before it was improved. On a later trip there she crossed the Arctic Circle. Dorothy greatly enjoyed being with family and friends and loved to share her many wonderful adventures.
Dorothy was active in her community as Dailey township treasurer for over 25 years, a former officer of American Legion Post 395 Auxiliary of Onamia, a board member of the Mount Pleasant Cemetery and member of the Daily Birthday Club.
She is survived by her children, Terri Rohloff, Onamia, MN, Rod (Danette) Rohloff, Pine Center, MN and Ted (Susan) Rohloff, Ramey, MN; ten grandchildren, Tony, Adam, Amber, Marie, Christian, Amanda, Sara, Morgan, Skylar and Noah.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Tony and Amanda Jindra; husband, William; 2 brothers, James and Raymond Jindra; 3 sisters, Elsie Norine, Lillian Swanson, and Esther Schnapp.
