Memorial service for Melvin Millam, age 91, of Milaca, will be held on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at 11 AM at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Bock with Rev. Beverly Robinson officiating. Interment will follow at Borgholm Cemetery near Bock. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Music will be provided by Barb Millam, Shirley Geurkink and Cheryl Bailey. Honorary casketbearers will include grandsons, Tom Erickson, Dan Erickson, Mark Witte, Brian Witte, Mike Timmer and Ben Millam.
Melvin Arthur Millam was born September 26, 1920 in Mudgett Township, Mille Lacs County, MN to Arthur and Mabel (Abel) Millam. He married Dorothy Roberts on October 11, 1947. They farmed near Foreston and in Hayland Township before moving to Bock in 1957. Melvin owned and operated a trucking business, hauling milk, hay and grain. In their retirement, Melvin and Dorothy enjoyed seventeen winters, with family and friends, in the desert near Yuma, AZ. In 2002, they moved to the Milaca High Rise Apartments, where they continued to play cards, attend senior dances and socialize with family and friends. In 2011, they moved to Heritage House in Milaca. Melvin was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Bock. He died on Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at the Fairview Northland Regional Hospital in Princeton.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy of Milaca; son, James Millam of Davis, CA; daughters, Nina McDermott of Hayward, WI and Mission, TX and Carol Knauel of Milaca and Mission, TX; son, Jonathan Edwards of Cape Elizabeth, ME; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Marian Lamprecht of Milaca; also by many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clifford, Everett, Floyd, Ken, Lester and Bob; sisters, Edna Westberg, Evelyn Alich and Clarice Erickson and daughter, Gladys Greene.
