Funeral service for Delbert Herman, age 87, of Milaca, will be held on Friday, September 7, 2012 at 1 PM at Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca with Rev. Beverly Robinson officiating. Interment will follow at Borgholm Cemetery near Bock. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday. Casketbearers will include Dennis Kunst, Stanley Unger, David Lein, Ken Unger, Ricky Biederman and Chris Carlson.
Delbert Julius Herman was born May 13, 1925 in Anthon, IA to Ernest Paul and Hilda Katherine (Langfeldt) Herrmann. He moved with his family to Rock Rapids, IA and then to the Canton, SD area and was baptized and confirmed at the Canton Lutheran Church. Delbert was united in marriage to Betty Mickelson on March 10, 1947 in Canton, SD and he worked on Betty’s family’s farm near Worthing, SD. They later moved to a farm on the Mille Lacs and Kanabec County line near Bock, MN. Delbert farmed and also worked at Rowland Implement and the Bock Feed Mill. Later, he also did custom field work and snow plowing. In 2000, Delbert and Betty moved to Milaca and in 2008 they moved to the Heritage House. He passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at the Heritage House in Milaca.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty; children, Daniel of Bock and his wife Carol of Milaca Elim Home; Katherine and husband Lyle Piepenburg of Foreston, Beth Herman of North Plains, OR and Deborah Schultz of Pine City; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; sisters, Ella Nelson of Milaca and Lyda Short, Iola Short and Harriet Kuehl all of Canton, SD; also by many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one grandson.
