Funeral service for John W. Chapman, Sr., age 85, of Princeton, will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 11 AM at the Fresh Waters United Methodist Church - Brook Campus with Pastor Loren Ferch officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will follow at the Lakeside Cemetery. Casketbearers will include Lucas Chapman, Charlie Erickson, Gervase Gonshorowski, Kevin LaVander, Mike Meyers and Steve Sidla, Jr. Arr. Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home of Milaca.
John William Chapman, Sr. was born October 09, 1927 in Spencer Brook Township in Isanti County to George and Edna (House) Chapman. He was united in marriage to Gladys Mae Onstott on September 06, 1947 in Cambridge, MN. John served in the US Air Force from 1952-1956. He went through basic training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX and transferred to Fort Lewis, WA for training. He then was stationed at Smokey Hill AFB in Salina, KS, where he and Mae lived for 3 ½ years until he was discharged. Besides working on the family farm in his younger years, he drove a concrete ready-mix truck for the Charles M. Friedheim Company from 1951 (time out for service duty) until 1985 when he retired. John loved to cook, hunt, fish, and tinker with taxidermy projects.
John passed away Thursday, January 31, 2013 at Sterling Pointe Senior Community in Princeton.
He was preceded in death by wife, Gladys and daughter, Joan Lafon Chapman Sidla.
He is survived by his son, John, Jr. (Mary) of Princeton; three grandchildren, Steve, Jr. (Jessica) Sidla of Sartell, Lucas Chapman of Princeton, and Elizabeth(Chase) Wood of Summerville, SC; one great-granchild, Taylor Sidla; and sister, Evelyn LaVander of Edina.
