Isabelle died on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at the Milaca Elim Home at the age of 96 years, 364 days.
Isabelle Day was born on February 3, 1916 to Newell and Lillian (Keene) Hardy in Borgholm Township. She graduated in 1933 from Milaca High School and normal training in 1934 to be a rural school teacher. She lived in Hayland and Mille Lacs County all her life except for the years 1950-1955 when they moved to Austin, Minnesota where they operated a service station.
Isabelle was united in marriage to Raymond Day on September 14, 1936. They had six children: Marilyn, Audrey, John, Jere, Janet and Susan. Isabelle was a homemaker for most of her life and worked along side her husband at the Ray’s Northside for ten years. She also worked at Sears Catalog Agency for Dorothy Leaf for a number of years. She enjoyed spending summers at the cabin with Ray, Susan and dog Zipper until it was sold in 1984.
She had a very strong faith and was active in the Milaca United Methodist Church her entire life and the Hardy family were loyal members of the early Church. She was baptized and confirmed there and was the oldest living member of the church when she died. She was a member of the UMW and was active in the Mary Martha circle. She liked to play bingo at the Senior Center and be with her friends. She was self-sufficient in her own apartment. She really missed her ability to have her own car. She loved her independence and didn’t want to be dependent on any of her children. Her greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Audrey and husband Ronald Bowe; son, John and wife Pat; son, Jere and wife Linda, all of Milaca; daughter, Susan and friend Dennis Terpstra of Anchorage, Alaska; 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond, one infant daughter, Marilyn, daughter, Janet, her parents, Newell and Lillian Hardy; sisters, Rosemond, Grace, and Beatrice; brothers, Samuel, Steve, Francis and Willard.
