Gary David Gustafson was born September 14, 1950 to David and Eva (Stewart) Gustafson in Seattle, WA. He moved to Milaca in 1961 and graduated from Milaca High School in 1968. As soon as he was able, he moved to Indiana but it wasn’t long until Gary realized that his heart belonged to the South. Sometime in the early 1980’s, Gary moved to the deep South. There he met and fell in love with Darlene and her three sons; Steve, Scott and Rusty. They spent their lives collecting antiques, visiting flea markets, watching old westerns, dancing to old country music and starting several businesses. He was most proud of his successful food service called, “Jolly Ollies”. Everyone who knew him called him, “Mr. Gary”. During Hurricane Katrina, Gary broke through police barriers to get food and water to people in need. He loved everything about the South; the food, the people, the music, the ocean and the warmth. Gary was a rated poker player with a 5,000 volume library and a generous heart that took care of the people that most would turn away from. His dogs, Patches and Abner, were his pride and joy. Gary passed away on Monday, March 11, 2013 in Milaca, MN.
Gary’s wishes were that he NOT be buried north of the Mason-Dixon line, so his family will honor this and his life will be celebrated by his friends on the beach in Biloxi, MS . . . . the place Gary called HOME. Fly High Big Buddy. FLY HIGH.
