June Avis Balk

Funeral service for June Balk, age 85, of Milaca, will be held on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at 11 AM at Milaca United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Woo Jae Im officiating. Interment will follow at Borgholm Cemetery near Bock. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Casketbearers will include John Day, Jere Day, Ron Bowe, David Beer III, Jake Beer and Gary Lanz. June Avis Balk was born June 13, 1927 to John and Elsie (Olson) Day in Wheaton, MN. At a young age, she moved with her family to Milaca, MN. June grew up in Milaca and graduated from Milaca High School. She worked at the garment factory in Milaca for many years. June was united in marriage to Alfred “Jake” Balk on June 12, 1965 at the Milaca United Methodist Church. The couple made their home in Austin, MN and June worked at Sears. In 1974, the couple returned to Milaca and she worked at the Hiway Cafe as a cashier. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jake in 1997. June was a member of the Milaca United Methodist Church where she was active with the CCW and Bible study. She enjoyed sewing and going camping. She passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at Regency Hospital in Golden Valley, MN. She is survived by her step-daughter, Linda (David) Beer; granddaughter, Michelle (Mike) Hoffmann; grandson, David (Julie) Beer; great-grandchildren, Josh and Sarah Hoffmann and David III, Jake and Kate Beer; special nieces, Mary Ann Lamb, Audrey Bowe and Susie Quinn; also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Elsie Day; husband, Alfred “Jake”; brothers, Raymond and Arthur Day and sisters, Alma Rudquist, Mildred Nesenson and Etta Forschen.
