Memorial service for Marilyn Holmer, age 77, of Milaca, formerly of Longville, MN, will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Milaca Elim Home Chapel with Rev. Tom Sahlstrom officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the Milaca Elim Home Chapel. Interment will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery in Milaca at a later date.
Marilyn Frances Holmer was born April 9, 1935 in West Hartford, CT to Eino and Heloise (Buck) Johnson. She attended elementary and junior high school in West Hartford and her high school years in Mexico City, New Mexico and Illinois, graduating in 1953. She graduated from Rockford College in Illinois with a BS in Education and from Saint Mary’s in Indiana with a MA in Environment Studies.
She was united in marriage to John Robert Holmer on March 23, 1956 in Rockford, Illinois. Following many years of teaching, they moved to Longville, MN, where they retired to their summer home on Woman Lake. There, she became interested in wetland ecology and wrote a children’s book (Beaver Stream).
She passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at the Milaca Elim Home.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, John; son, John R. (Linnea)Holmer of Milan, IL; two daughters, Deb Teige of Chillicothe, IL, and Sheryl (Doug) Beehler of Milaca, MN; seven grandchildren; one sister, Paula (Edgar) Harrell of Chevy Chase, Washington, DC.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one granddaughter, Melissa Beehler.
