Funeral service for Mae DeVries, age 91, of Milaca, will be held on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at 11 AM at Zion Lutheran Church in Milaca. Interment will follow at Borgholm Cemetery near Bock. Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM on Wednesday at Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Anna Mae Esther DeVries was born May 4, 1921 in Minneapolis to Gunnar and Ruth (Newberg) Carlson. She was united in marriage to Floyd DeVries on November 9, 1940 at Zion Lutheran Church in Milaca. The couple farmed in the Milaca area for over thirty years. After Floyd’s death in 1989, Mae moved to a townhome in Milaca. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Milaca where she was active with the ELCW, serving in the Rachel Circle. Mae enjoyed quilting, bowling, gardening and flowers and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her children, Ruth Ann (Alan) Kragt of Milaca, Dick (Sue) of Billings, MT, Marilyn (Gerry) Hovde of Foley and Tom (Sharon) of Milaca; 15 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Arlene Rice of Milaca; daughter-in-law, Skip Albertson of Blaine; sisters-in-law, Pearl Koppendrayer of Princeton, Joyce Kiel of Milaca and Helen Kok of Milaca; also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She passed away on April 25, 2013 at Milaca Elim Home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; son Ralph and sister, Virginia Oleen.
