Memorial service for Mildred Horigan, age 76, of Milaca, formerly of Brainerd, will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 22nd at Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca, MN with Rev. Tom Sahlstrom officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service Peterson Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca. Interment will follow at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls at a later date.
Mildred Elvera Horigan was born on August 31, 1936 in Onamia, Minnesota to Elmer and Bernell (Listerud) Gave. She attended school in Onamia. Bow hunting, fishing for Northern, and gardening brought great joy to Millie over the years. Millie was united in marriage to Eugene “Bud” Horigan on March 27, 1961 in Las Vegas and then moved to Phoenix, AZ. Millie worked for a laundry service. In 1963 they moved to Luverne, MN where Millie worked for Campbell’s soup. They next moved to Baxter, MN in 1965 where Millie worked for JCPenney for 25 years. Millie was a member of the Brainerd American Legion since 1981 and the Brainerd Ladies Auxiliary VFW since 1985. Her hobbies included gardening, bow hunting, fishing for her favorite Northern Pike, and spending time with family. Millie died on Friday, July 19, 2013 at the Milaca Elim Home at the age of 76 years ten months and nineteen days.
She is survived by her mother, Bernell Gave of Milaca; brother, Roger Gave and wife, Gerrie of Faribault; nieces, Leann (Neil) Ziegler of Foreston, Tracie Gave of Foreston, Michelle Cordona of CA and Tisha Gave of Faribault; nephew, Dana (Alesha) Gave of Foreston; great nieces and nephews, Joshua Daiker, Adam Ziegler, Kimberly Gave, Amber Gave, Jordan Gave, Bobbi Jo Gave, Ryan and Derek Rossberg; great-great nephew Reece Weikert.
She was preceded in death by father Elmer Gave and brother Alvin Gave.
