Mass of Christian Burial for Margit Krauel, age 88, of Milaca, will be held on Saturday, September 7 at 10 AM at St. Louis Catholic Church in Foreston with Fr. Jim Remmerswaal, OSC officiating. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM Friday at Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca and 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Music will be provided by Ann Johnson, Ed Bauer and the St. Louis Choir. Casketbearers will include Richard Krauel, John Krauel Jr., Mark Krauel, Joe Sonke, Doug Roderick, Billy Smith, Michael Krauel, Nathan Brink and Craig Schafer. Honorary caskebearers will include Charlie Krauel, Joseph Siebert, Mesa Siebert, Randy Hjelmtveit and Ron Abel.
Margit Ragnhild Krauel was born June 12, 1925 to Hellick and Lena (Tindeland) Hjelmtveit in Elmore, MN. She grew up on a farm near Elmore, MN and graduated from Elmore High School in 1943. She then attended Lutheran Deaconess School of Nursing and graduated with an RN degree in 1946. Margit worked as a nurse at Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis until she moved to Milaca in 1949. She was united in marriage to William Krauel on May 29, 1952 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Foreston. Margit worked at Memorial Hospital in Milaca until it closed in 1966. She then worked at the Milaca Area Hospital until her retirement in 1990. Margit loved being with family and friends and especially loved cooking for them. Her faith was very important to her. Margit enjoyed helping and serving others, both through work and her personal life. She passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at the Milaca Elim Home.

She is survived by her children, Thomas (Deborah) Krauel of Ogilvie and Kristi (Jeff) Smith of Duluth; grandchildren, Melissa (Nathan) Brink of Lindstrom, Mary (Craig) Schafer of Chanhassen, Mike (Sarah) Krauel of St. Cloud, William Smith of Duluth and Mesa (Josef) Siebert of New Zealand; great-grandchildren, Aaron, Caleb and Lydia Brink and Benjamin and Hannah Krauel; also by many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, William in 1991; parents, Hellick and Lena; sister, Helen Abel; brother, Kermit Hjelmtviet and four unborn babies.
