Marjorie Sonnek was born August 04, 1919 to Ellef and Julia (Granum) Jordahl in Mapleton, Minnesota. She attended school in Mapleton and loved playing kittenball and being outside on the farm with her father. On June 19, 1940 she was united in marriage to Norbert Sonnek in Minnesota Lake, Minnesota. They made their home there and moved to Brownsdale, Minnesota. In 1962, they moved to a farm near Foreston. She was very active on the farm, especially taking care of the baby calves and having a huge garden every summer. Marjorie was a long-time member of Saint Mary’s Catholic Church and worked with church and 4-H activities. She loved spending time with her family and friends, playing a spirited game of cards, baking, and cooking. Her beautiful tulip and rose gardens and her many houseplants were testimony to her green thumb. Egg coffee and made-from-scratch chocolate cake with super sweet thick frosting was a special treat for anyone who stopped to visit. The welcome mat was always out and laughter was plentiful in her home. Marjorie passed away Monday, September 02, 2013 at her residence near Foreston. She is survived by her sons, Norbert, Jr. (Judy) of Foreston; Chad (Anne) of Vicksburg, Mississippi; Michael (Edie) of Foreston; and Jan (Lorensa) of Des Moines, Iowa; and her daughter, Zita Sonnek of Foreston; 13 grandchildren, Therese, Troy, Kim, Eric, Kyle, Jennifer, Chad, Curtis, Tami, Jamie, Jana, Cody, and Jaclynn; 14 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Anna Burke and Adeline James; other relatives and friends. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Norbert (2003), two infant sons, Roger and Kirk; daughter, Joyce; great-granddaughter, Rachel Davis; sisters, Ella, Janet, and Gladys, and brothers, Oscar, Ole, and Henry. Memorials are preferred to Saint Mary’s Catholic Church or the charity of your choice. Arrangements are being handled by the Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca. 320.983.3488
