Danny Roelofs, 57, of Sioux Center, formerly of Rock Valley and Milaca, Minnesota, died Thursday, January 23, 2014 at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 1st at the Christian Reformed Church in Pease with Rev. Robert DeYoung officiating. Burial will be in the Pease Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Memorials are preferred to Hope Haven in Rock Valley, Iowa.
Danny Roelofs was born March 4, 1956 in Princeton, Minnesota, the son of Ervin and Winnie (Robyn) Roelofs. He grew up on the farm near Milaca, Minnesota and attended country school and special education. At the age of 11, Danny began his schooling at Hope Haven in Rock Valley, Iowa. He then continued, in 1978, into working at Hope Haven in many different areas. He lived with families in Rock Valley and currently was living in Sioux Center. Danny enjoyed his Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Twins, and also the Iowa Hawkeyes. He liked Special Olympics and bowling. His family in Minnesota, his Hope Haven family, and his many friends were very dear to him.
He is survived by his brothers, H. Jay Roelofs of Alexandria, Minnesota, Tim and wife Lois Roelofs of Milaca, Minnesota, and Marvin Schruer also of Milaca, Minnesota; sisters-in-law, Myrna Schreur of West St. Paul, Minnesota and Nanci Roelofs of Blaine, Minnesota; also nephews and nieces, Shelley, Kim, Curt, Michael, Misti, Troy, and Jessie; great-nephews and great-nieces; and all of his friends, community members, and the Hope Haven family, whom he loved so much.
Danny was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jim; and his roommate, Tom.
