Warren Dale Kamstra was born on June 14, 1940 to Albert and Sena Kamstra. He and his sisters, Louise and Karen, grew up on a dairy farm two miles southwest of Milaca. Warren attended District 32, Pease Christian School, and Milaca High School where he graduated in 1958. After graduation, he joined the National Guard and served six months active duty and six years in the Guard in Milaca. After active duty, he worked for Fingerhut for approximately four years and then for the Mille Lacs County Highway Department for several more years. Warren was united in marriage to Carolyn DeJong on May 18, 1962 in Pease, MN. They purchased a farm in the Pease area when they married, and started milking cows in 1967. Warren and Carolyn were blessed with four children who grew up on the dairy farm where they learned to play and work hard together. They sold the cows in 2001 and Warren then went to work for Oakwood Game Farm for several years. He and Carolyn enjoyed traveling together to deliver pheasants to other game farms all over the Midwest. Carolyn passed away on May 2, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer and Warren continued living on the farm.
Together Warren and Carolyn enjoyed God’s creation by downhill skiing, taking summer vacations at the lake, traveling and camping with family. Warren also enjoyed fishing, hunting out west, golfing frequently and was planning to complete his 3rd 5K next week for cancer awareness. Last summer Warren took his entire family to a dude ranch in Wyoming where they enjoyed horseback riding in the mountains and began making new memories since Carolyn’s passing. Warren made it his mission to share Christ’s love with those around him whether he was transporting his Amish friends or delivering Guatemala apple pies to people in the community. Warren was active in the Christian Reformed Church of Pease his entire life and most recently went on two trips to Guatemala where they spent time with the local Vine and Branches organization.
Warren was taken from us too soon during an automobile accident in Nebraska on Tuesday, September 9, while visiting his children and grandchildren and helping with a fundraiser for their local Christian School. Warren will be greatly missed by children Terri (Bruce) DeVries of Ham Lake, MN and children Matthew and his wife Amanda of Holland, MI, Hannah and her fiancé Taylor, and Emma, Judy (Brian) Heichert of Andover, MN and children Breanna, Amanda and Sophie, Bruce (Kristin) Kamstra of Kansas City, MO and children Andrew, Elizabeth and Ian and Kathy (Don) Griess of Grafton, NE and children Caitlin, Heidi and Adam; sister Louise Spoelstra and sister Karen (Duane) Bouma both of Milaca. Warren was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn, parents Albert & Sena, brothers-in-law Gerb Spoelstra and Bob Christensen.
