Funeral services for Melvin Larsen, age 89, of Milaca, will be held on Thursday, October 23rd at 11 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Milaca with Rev. Tim Bauer officiating. Interment will follow at Borgholm Cemetery near Bock with military honors provided by Hansen-Hayes American Legion Post #178 and Siemers-Hakes VFW Post #10794. Visitation will be from 4 - 7 PM on Wednesday at Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca and 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Melvin Larsen was born September 6, 1925 to Hans Sr. and Grace (Starkweather) Lasren at home in Borgholm Township, Mille Lacs County, Minnesota. He attended country school and served in the US Army during World War II. He was united in marriage to Delores “Dolly” Irene Anfinson on September 23, 1947 in Milaca. The couple spent two years in Winnebago, MN before returning to Milaca to start farming along with construction work. Melvin was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. His hobbies included gardening, feeding and watching the birds, jigsaw puzzles and watching John Wayne movies.
Melvin died on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at the Milaca Elim Home.
Melvin is survived by children, Kenny (Karen), Dave (Lois), Rick (Sherry) Mike (Jean) all of Milaca, Lonny (Diane) of Princeton, Tim, Harlan (Lisa) both of Milaca, Debbie (Mark) of Beach, N.D., Melody of Milaca; 27 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; sister, Elaine (Don) Sanderson of Milaca; brothers, Gene (Annabelle) of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, Jim of Monument, Colorado and Ralph (Cheryl) of Milaca; also by many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dolly; infant son, Randy; daughter, Donna; brothers Levi, Laurence, Hans Jr., Vernon, John, Donald “Dean”, Marvin, Paul, Ray and Gary; sisters, Sophie Johnson, Wilma Anderson, Pearl Broberg and Karen Radke.
