Funeral services for Donald E. Broberg, age 86, of Milaca, will be held Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Milaca with Rev. Stephen Blenkush officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 18, 2014 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church and also one hour prior to services. Intement will follow in the Forest Hill Cemetery.
Donald Ellsworth Broberg was born January 8, 1928 to John and Agnes (Hippi) Broberg in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He was four years old when his parents purchased the family farm in Hayland Township. He attended Hayland Country School and graduated from Milaca High School in 1945. After high school, he worked with his uncle in Saint Paul, but soon returned to Hayland as farming was his life. He was united in marriage to Audrey Weaver on September 1, 1951 at Zion Lutheran Church in Milaca. He has resided on the farm for 81 years.
He served as a fire warden for 40 years, the Hayland Township Board, the Land O’ Lakes Board, and a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Donald loved deer hunting, but especially loved the bond it brought to extended family.
Donald passed away Sunday, November 16, 2014 at the Milaca Elim Home.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey of Milaca, children, Diane (Duane) Dahlstrom, Douglas (Jan) Broberg, Denise (Shawn) Walker, Donna (Dave) Dircks, David (Laura) Broberg, and Daniel Broberg; grandchildren, Douglas Broberg, Jr., Katie (Tony) Zens, Eric (Tessa) Dahlstrom, Emily (Paul) Deede, Jessica (Ben) Hollenkamp, Jon Dircks, Elyse Dahlstrom, Hannah (Tyson) Brown, Ross Broberg, Anne Broberg, Abby Walker, Tori Broberg, Austin Broberg, Sydnee Broberg, and Sawyer Broberg; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Delores Narey; brother, Jim (Carol) Broberg; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Adeline Olson; and brothers-in-law, Lew Olson and Bill Narey.
