Memorial services for Carol J. Johnson, age 79, of Milaca, will be held Saturday, December 27, 2014 at 11 AM at Zion Lutheran Church in Milaca with Rev. Stephen Blenkush officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will take place in the spring at Rose Hill Cemetery in Minot, North Dakota. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Zion camperships.
Carol J. Johnson was born November 2, 1935 in Stanley, North Dakota to Melvin and Edna (Jacobson) Howell. Carol graduated from Minot High School in 1954. She was united in marriage to Everett Shirley on September 1, 1955 in Minot, North Dakota.
Carol and Everett had two children, Greg and Gayle. Carol was a professional banker after starting at First National Bank in Minot, North Dakota, which was changed to Norwest Bank in which Carol retired from in 1991 as Vice President of Marketing.
Carol was a prominent member of the Minot community. She was a member of the Minot Chamber of Commerce; she also helped develop the first community theater in Minot, and was a part of many other community organizations. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Minot.
Carol married Wesley Johnson on June 22, 1991 in Minot, and moved to Milaca. She worked for the First National Bank in Milaca for about ten years. She enjoyed being active in the Milaca community as well.
Carol was an avid gardener and her flower gardens at her home showed this. She loved her gardens. Carol was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Milaca.
She passed away at her home of cancer surrounded by family on Sunday, December 21, 2014.
Carol is survived by her husband, Wes of Milaca; son, Greg (Maureen) Shirley of Saint Cloud and daughter, Gayle (Randy) Wentling of Colorado Springs, Colorado; five grandchildren, Jeanna (Michael) Dwyer of Bloomington, MN, Sarah Shirley of Minneapolis, Mark Shirley of Saint Cloud, Kristi deLange (Jacques) of Colorado Springs, CO, and Stacie Wentling of Klamath Falls, Oregon; two great grandchildren, Mason and Wesley deLange and sister, Patricia (Alton) Burns of Saint Paul; also by many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Everett Shirley, parents, step-father, Nels Ringsaker, and brother, Wally Howell.
