Robert Edwin Johnson

May 1, 2008 — November 26, 2008

Robert “Bob” Edwin Johnson, 85, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, November 26 while surrounded by loved ones. Bob’s life will be celebrated at the Milaca Elim Home’s December Memorial Service on Thursday December 18 at 1:30 PM. A private family interment will be held at Fort Snelling. Bob was born on May 1, 1923 to Edwin and Esther (Olesen) Johnson in St. Paul, Minnesota. He attended Brown Institute in Minneapolis, and served in the Army Air Corp as a sergeant from 1942 to 1946. He was assigned to the 20th Airforce on the island of Guam. He worked in radio and television most of his life, and retired from the position of Vice President of the Christian Broadcasting Network in Virginia Beach, Virginia. In earlier years he performed extensively in community theater and had a lifelong passion for music and singing. His past interests were taking his son fishing and camping, family road trips, self taught home projects and the Green Bay Packers. His rich sense of humor and wit gave the gift of laughter to those around him. The most important thing to Bob was his family and his saving faith in Jesus Christ whom he loved and served joyfully until his death. His favorite verse was Isaiah 40:31. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Donna Mae Matthews; and son-in-law, Joe DePola. He is survived by his wife, Maxine (Hildebrand) of Virginia Beach, VA; children, Lora-jean (Paris) Jones of Milaca, MN, Robyne (Mike) Dunlap of Suffolk, VA, and Craig Johnson of Midland, VA; grandchildren, Nichole (Scott) Anderson, Evan Jones, and Kristin DePola. The family would like to thank the Milaca Elim Home where Bob resided since September 2007. He was blessed to be loved and cared for by the Elim staff who had truly become a second family to him in the last year of his life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Milaca Elim Home.
