Memorial services for Wallace “Wally” Timmer, age 86, of Milaca, will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 2 PM at the Christian Reformed Church in Pease with Rev. David Smit and Rev. Tom Sahlstrom officiating. Military honors will be provided by Hansen-Hayes American Legion Post #178 and Siemers –Hakes VFW Post #10794. Music will be provided by Dorothy Brink and Debbie Vedders. Arr. Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca.
Wally Timmer was born July 15, 1922 in Bogus Brook Township, MN to Jerry and Maggie (Kuperus) Timmer. He married Lois Kooiman on December 29, 1942 in Midland, TX. He served in the US Army from 1942 to 1945 in Ireland during World War II. After completing his service, Wally and Lois made their home on a farm near Pease, MN and Wally farmed until his retirement in 1978. After retirement, they moved to live on Mille Lacs Lake. In 2000, Wally and Lois moved back to Milaca. For 20 years, Wally and Lois spent their winters in Texas. Wally was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Pease and the Onamia VFW. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. He died on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 at the Fairview Northland Regional Hospital in Princeton.
He is survived by his wife, Lois; children, Sharon (Kent) Malcolm of Pease, Bill (Bonnie) Timmer of Becker and Wendell (Carla) Timmer of Sauk Rapids; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Katherine Timmer of Milaca; brother, Lawrence Timmer of Milaca; also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Fred Timmer, John Timmer, Marie Gannon, Frank Timmer, Julia Koning and Nina Timmer.
