A memorial service for Dr. Thomas B. Kyle, 72, of Milaca, MN was held Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2009 at Pease Christian Reformed Church in Pease, MN with the Rev. Aaron Andrews, the Rev. David Jones, and the Rev. Steve Loopstra officiating. Marjorie Kiel, organist and Lynnette Kyle, soloist provided music. Honorary pallbearers were Lyle Berghuis, Wes Berghuis, Rob DeBoer, Leroy Ekberg, Jeff Holter, and Bill Wright. Burial was at the Forest Hill cemetery in Milaca. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers. The family suggests memorials to Tom Kyle Ministries, the money will be sent to Marta’s Orphanage in Brazil.
Tom died January 31st at the St. Cloud Hospital after complications from surgery.
He was born July 14, 1936 in Akron, OH to James and Nellie (Buskey) Kyle. He graduated from Garfield High in Akron. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Missions and Bachelor of Theology from Crown College in St. Paul, MN in 1960. He went on to earn his Masters of Theology from International Seminary in Plymouth, FL in 1988. He received a Doctor of Divinity from Toccoa Falls College, Toccoa Falls, GA in 1989.
He married Mary Ann Adamson July 6, 1957 in Echo, MN. Together they had three daughters. They moved in Milaca, MN where Tom was the Pastor of the Christian and Missionary Alliance (C&MA) Church. Tom and Mary left for Brazil in 1965 to become missionaries working in evangelism and church planting. While in Brazil, Tom served as the field director for the mission. Tom was also involved in the International School of Curitiba, Brazil serving as President of the School Board.
Tom and his family returned to the United States in 1980. He then ministered as an International Evangelist for the C&MA. He traveled through the US and to 24 different countries. He served on the Board of Mangers for the C&MA He was the Director of Summer Festival of the Bible in Toccoa Falls, GA. He was currently on the board of Repairers of Broken Walls an international ministry providing aid. For the past 12 years he served as an interim Pastor in the following cities: Echo, MN, Ortonville, MN, Milaca, MN, Pease, MN, Princeton, MN.
Tom enjoyed landscaping reading, football, and a good cup of “egg” coffee, and most importantly time with his family.
He is survived by Mary his wife of 51 years; daughters Lynnette of Shanghai, China, Laurie (Ken) Wright of Brooklyn Park, MN, Tami (Randy) Shutt also of Brooklyn Park, MN; grandchildren Luke Anderson, Kailee Wright, Marissa Wright, Kristin Shutt, Jessica Shutt, Lindsey Shutt; sisters Elaine (John) Packo at Cincinnati, OH, Marlene (Pat) Jarett of Pittsville, MD, Shirley (Gary) Clark of Sebring,FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents James and Nellie Kyle and his brother Jim Kyle.
