Services for Larry Grimm, age 74, of Milaca, will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at 11 AM at MILACA ELIM HOME CHAPEL (Please note location change) with Pastor Dale Clifton officiating.
Larry V. Grimm was born November 21, 1940 to Verl and Viola (Landgrebe) Grimm in Vinton, IA. He was raised on the family farm in rural Dysart, IA, where he farmed until April of 1992. He attended the Rogerville country school and graduated from Dysart-Geneseo High School in 1959. Larry then took over the family dairy operation and farming became his main priority. He was known as a pioneer in the dairy industry in the 1970’s and 1980’s for experimenting with many of the practices used in the dairy industry today. He was featured several times in Hoard’s Dairyman Magazine in their round table sections on nutrition and other practices. He worked closely with Dr. Kent Nelson and Dr. Robert Ketter on many trials in nutrition and herd health. Larry also assisted Babson Bros. (Surge) in developing milking and handling equipment. No experimental idea was too big for him to try. He was married and later divorced and had two children, Marty and Jamie. In 1992, he moved to central Minnesota with his son, Marty, and continued to help him and his family run their dairy farm until 1997. Larry then worked for other dairy farmers and still had his own small herd until 2000. In retirement, he worked part time and helped his 10 grandchildren in Minnesota with their 4-H projects and spent time with family. The last two years, he was a resident at Milaca Elim Home, where made many friends and attended many activities. He passed on Saturday, July 25, 2015 after a battle with terminal pancreatic cancer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Terry and granddaughter, Alyssa Grimm. He is survived by his son, Marty (Heidi Schaefer) Grimm and their nine children of Milaca and daughter, Jamie (Chris) Van Hauen and their daughter of Dysart, IA.
