Memorial service for Alyce M. Sanderson, age 61, of Milaca, will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at 5 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Milaca with Rev. Tim Bauer officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance.
Alyce Madre Sanderson was born September 10, 1953 to Andree and Alvina (Maitland) Swanson. She was raised on the family farm in Page Township and attended Tibbets Brook Country School through the sixth grade. She graduated from Milaca High School in 1971. On October 20, 1973, Alyce married the love of her life, Dean Sanderson, and they made their home just outside of Milaca, where they raised their three children.
Alyce had many different interests and jobs; she did what she wanted, never afraid to try something new or different. A few highlights in the summer were traveling with the Milaca Intermediate Band and camping with her family. She loved every minute of it! She worked as a crossing guard at the Milaca Schools for 21 years, standing on Highway 23. Alyce always waved at everyone with a smile on her face while wearing a hat for every occasion. Alyce passed away Sunday, August 30, 2015 at her home, surrounded by her family after a courageous 5 ½ years battle with Ovarian Cancer. Through it all, she retained her sharp wit and sense of humor.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 41 years, Dean; three children, Jenny (Dewey) Schramm of Milaca, Adam (Jennifer) Sanderson of St. Cloud and Joe (Erin) Sanderson of Foreston; grandchildren, Jake, Amber, Cody, Ella, Jaxson, Avery and one on the way; great-grandchildren, Dillon and one on the way; sister, Ann (Tiit) Raid of Eau Claire, WI, Arlene Kreller of Milaca and Aimee (Kenny) Struffert of Foreston; brother-in-law, DuWayne Johnson of Florida; also by many other relatives and friends.
Alyce was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Alan and sister, Aloha.
