Memorial service for Delores Carlson, age 85, of Milaca, will be held Monday, February 8, 2016 at 11 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Milaca with Rev. Tim Bauer officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Burial will take place at Borgholm Cemetery near Bock at later date. Delores passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at Milaca Elim Home.
Delores Estelle Carlson was born August 10, 1930 to Anna and Clarence (C.O.) Swenson in Fargo, ND.
She was baptized and confirmed at Nora Lutheran Church in Gardner, ND. Delores graduated from Moorhead State with a degree in teaching and went on to teach grade school in Wheaton, ND, Marion, ND and settled in Kiester, MN, where she met Manfred (Swede) Carlson. Manfred and Delores married July 9, 1960 in The Little Brown Church in the Vale, Nashua, Iowa.
Delores lived in Kiester for 51 years during which she was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She spent summers traveling and camping at nearly all of Minnesota’s state parks. She enjoyed many handcrafts including: Hardanger, Norwegian Rosemaling, knitting, crocheting, quilting, sewing and baking.
She was custodian at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Kiester, where she taught Sunday school, Bible School and was the Sunday school director.
She enjoyed following her friends and family on Facebook, her grandson’s hockey games on the internet, playing Bridge, Rummikub and Sequence with her friends at Country Meadows.
She is survived by her husband, Manfred; brother, Jerry (Dorothy) Swenson of Gardner, ND; daughter, Tammy (Jeff) Cotten of Susank, KS; sons, Meade (Kelly) Carlson of Centreville, VA and Brent (Chris) Carlson of Lino Lakes, MN and grandson, Kristofer Carlson, Austin, MN.
She was preceded in death by parents, infant son, brother, Harlan Swenson and nephew, Kevin Swenson.
