Funeral services for Edward Karsjens, age 94, of Hillman, will be held on Monday, February 15, 2016 at 2 PM at Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca with Rev. Stephen Blenkush officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Lone Pine Cemetery near Morrill. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday.
Edward Everett Karsjens was born January 24, 1922 to Reint and Mary (Eckhoff) Karsjens in Bradford, IA. The family moved to the Hollandale area in 1926 and Edward attended Bell School District #27 through the 8th grade. He was raised as member of the Conservative Congregational Church in Hollandale. Edward served in the US Navy during World War II. He was united in marriage to Elsie Wind on November 1, 1952 in Pine City, MN. Edward worked at the space center in St. Paul for thirty years. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his kids and grandkids. He passed away on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at St. Cloud Hospital.
He is survived by his children, Mary (Robert) Meyer of Lino Lakes, Linda Moxness of Forest Lake, Leslie of Hillman, Shirley (Roy) Hillstrom of St. Paul, Kevin of Moose Lake, Tami Johnson of Milaca and Susan (Ted) Rohloff of Pierz; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dwight (Delores) Karsjens and Delbert (Judy) Karsjens both of Clarks Grove; sisters, Eleanor (Doedi) Harms of Blooming Prairie, Inez (Henry) Waalkens of Albert Lea, and Lauretta (William) Barnett of Austin; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elsie in 2013; son, Ronald; brothers, Orval and Walter and sisters, Leonora Miller and Matilda Waalkens.
