Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy Herzing, age 86, of Milaca, will be held Monday, May 16, 2016 at 11 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Milaca. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 - 5 PM Sunday at St. Mary's Church and 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Dorothy passed away Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Mille Lacs Nursing Home in Onamia. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Milaca Food Pantry. Dorothy Frances Herzing was born November 3, 1929 in Tracy , MN, the third child of Vic and Sarah Supernaut. After the death of Sarah, shortly after Dorothy’s birth, she was adopted by John (Sarah’s brother) and Molly Kelly. She grew up in Curry, MN and graduated from Butterfield High School. She went on to earn a nursing degree from St. Teresa’s College in Winona, MN. She practiced nursing in New York while living in a convent discerning a life to serve as a Sister, God’s calling took her in another direction where she worked as a nurse in Santa Barbara, St. Paul, and finally Mille Lacs County. She met Fred Herzing in Milaca and they were married on May 7th, 1955 at St. Mary’s Church, where they were charted members. They were abundantly blessed with eight children, whom they raised on the family dairy farm. Later, she returned to nursing in Mora as a school nurse and then found her way back to Mille Lacs County Public Health, retiring in 1995. After her retirement, she continued to teach baptism and confirmation classes at St. Mary’s. Dorothy enjoyed cooking, playing cards (especially when she won), praying, and studying the Bible. She remained actively involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Mary Therese (Roy) Marsh, Mary Anne Herzing, Dee Herzing (Ken Harkey), John Herzing, Barb Herzing, Jim (Julia) Herzing, Fr. Joe Herzing and Mike Herzing; grandchildren, Matthew (Heidi) Allred, Kelly Allred, Anna Marsh, Joshua Herzing, George Herzing, Benjamin Herzing, Jack Herzing, and sister, Gen Neururer; also by many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband, Fred, her parents, and her sister, Pat Gardner. She will be greatly missed.
