Albert Filipek

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at 11 AM at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Bock with Rev. Julie Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Borgholm Cemetery, Albert Filipek was born on November 15, 1916 to Albert and Maria (Turek) Filipek in Montgomery, MN. The family moved to Minneapolis where Albert attended and graduated from the Roosevelt High School. Albert entered the United States Navy serving during World War II as a Carpenter’s Mate First Class in the South Pacific with the Navel Construction Battalion. He was united in marriage to Ramona Peterson on January 31, 1948 in Minneapolis. The couple made their home in Minneapolis and later in Coon Rapids before moving to Milaca in May of 1972. They resided on 80 acres in the Rum River State Forest north of Milaca. Albert worked at Honeywell retiring in February 1977 after 26 years. He also did cabinet work, built and remodeled homes and built fish houses. Albert was a long time member of the VFW and the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Bock where he served on the council and building committee. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, gardening, bowling and softball. He also enjoyed elk hunting in Colorado. Albert died on Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at the Elim Home in Milaca at the age of 92 years 6 months and 5 days. He is survived by his children, David and wife Diane of Bath, New Hampshire, Barbara and husband Dennis Hedin of Lake City, Iowa, Maria and husband Paul Bixenstine of Lake City, Iowa, Sandra and husband Alan Fredrickson of Stewart, MN and Paul of Milaca, 12 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ramona, parents, 3 brothers and 1 sister.
