Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at the St. Louis Catholic Church in Foreston with Fr. James Remmerswaal officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 PM on Tuesday at Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca. Music will be provided by Ann Johnson and Brenda Smith. Interment will be in the St. Louis Catholic Cemetery. Casketbearers will included Gary Hinnekamp, Dan Roehl, Bernie Roehl, Joe Sadowski, Ron Sadowski and Mike Sadowski. Military honors will be provided by Hansen-Hayes American Legion Post #178 & Siemers-Hakes VFW Post # 17094. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Knights of Columbus or the Crosier Fathers. Arrangements are with the Peterson Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca.
Gilbert John Kosel was born on January 31, 1926 to Andrew and Victoria (Schimnich) Kosel in Milaca, Minnesota. He attended school in Milaca graduating from the Milaca High School in 1943. Gilbert entered the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict. Gilbert was united in marriage to Nona Nelson on October 25, 1969 in Foreston and made their home in Milaca. Gilbert was co-owner and proprietor of Lakeway Lanes in Milaca for many years. He was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. His hobbies include bowling and golf and in his younger days softball. The joy of his life was flying his airplane. Recently Gil has resided at the Foley Nursing Center where he died on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at the age of 83 years 4 months and 6 days.
He is survived by 3 sisters, Margaret (Francis) Roehl of Oak Park, Catherine Sadowski of Elk River, MN, Rosalie (Al) Hinnenkamp of St. Paul, sisters in law, Katherine Kosel of Foreston, Linda (John) Hansen and Arlys (Richard) Dobbs both of Minneapolis and many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Nona, parents, brothers, Harold, Andrew and Wilfred.
