Edward Miller, age 81, of Milaca, formerly of Bloomington, died at his home near Milaca on Wednesday, June 10, 2009. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at 11 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Milaca with The Rev. David Hahn officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Milaca. Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM Monday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Milaca with a prayer service at 5:30 PM. Music will be provided by Jane Marquardsen. Casketbearers will include Joshua Burney, Benjamin Burney, Caleb Burney, Greyson Pingree, Tom Nelson, and Tyler Sauck. Arr. Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home of Milaca.
Edward Miller was born February 19, 1928 in rural Hibbing, MN to Edward L. and Elida (Bjerke) Miller. He grew up near Hibbing and graduated from Hibbing High School in 1946. He entered the U.S. Army in 1946, serving for two years in occupied Japan. He married Faye Johnson at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hibbing on July 25, 1953. They lived in Bloomington, MN for 40 years. Edward retired in 1992 and in 1994 they moved to the kind of country home they always wanted in rural Milaca, MN. Edward was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Milaca. He enjoyed his beloved dog Dazzle, raising chickens, feeding and watching wild birds, hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed spending time at the cabin he built on Portage Lake near McGregor, MN. The family would like to offer a special thanks to all the emergency personnel for their kindness.
He is survived by his wife, Faye; children, Linda and husband Russ Burney of Weare, NH, Carol and husband Tom Nelson of Milaca and Paul and wife Faye Miller of Willow, AK; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sisters, Vivian Schermerhorn of Texas and Lil McCloud of California; brother, Rein and wife Vi Miller of California; sister-in-law, Betty Miller of Colorado; also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Herbert, Arvold and Grover and sisters, Myrtle and Luella.
