Funeral services for Beryl Martinson, age 97, of Milaca, will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2009 at 11 AM at the Milaca Evangelical Free Church with Rev. Tom Sahlstrom officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will follow at Borgholm Cemetery near Bock. Casketbearers will include Sean Sahlstrom, Matt Sahlstrom, Joel Sahlstrom, Wes Sahlstrom, Pete Sahlstrom and Louis Kucera. Honorary casketbearers will include Greg Kucera, Gary Kucera, Steve Kucera, Scott Kucera, Heather Sahlstrom and Megan Sahlstrom. Arr. Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home of Milaca. Beryl Jeanette Martinson was born July 2, 1912 in Hayland Township, Mille Lacs County, to Alfred and Anna Johnson. She attended Hayland grade school, Milaca High School, one year of teacher’s training and also continued classes at St. Cloud Teacher’s College. She taught in several rural schools and seventeen years as 5th grade teacher at Milaca Elementary School, retiring in 1974. She married Walter Martinson of Oak Park, MN on June 16, 1934 and the couple had two daughters. They farmed until 1950 when they moved to Milaca. Walter preceded her in death in 1966. Beryl moved to Country Meadows in Milaca in 2008. She died on Thursday, August 6, 2009 at Country Meadows at the age of 97 years old. She is survived by her daughters, JoAnn and husband Louis Kucera of Waynesville, NC and Donna and husband Tom Sahlstrom of Milaca; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter; one sister; seven brothers and one great-granddaughter, Caroline.
