Funeral services for Harris Santema, age 79, of Pease, will be held on Thursday, November 12 at 11 AM at the Christian Reformed Church in Pease with Rev. David Smit and Rev. Tom Sahlstrom officiating. Interment will follow at Pease Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM Wednesday and 1 hour prior to the service both at the Christian Reformed Church in Pease. Music will be provided by Donna Angermeier and Jenny and Kayla Santema.
Harris Glen Santema was born March 8, 1930 to John and Bertha (Byker) Santema in Mille Lacs County. He grew up near Pease and attended Pease Christian School until the 8th grade. He worked helping area farmers and at the Pease Feed Store. Harris enlisted in the National Guard and received an honorable discharge. He married Shirley Johnson on January 7, 1961 at Zion Lutheran Church in Milaca. Harris farmed for most of his life 1 ½ miles west of Pease and was a life long member of the Christian Reformed Church in Pease. He was resided at the Milaca Elim Home for the last two years. He died on Sunday, November 8, 2009 at the Milaca Elim Home.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley of Milaca; children, Holly Santema of Marble, MN, Jody (Gerald) Alderink of Milaca and Kevin (Kristi) of Princeton; seven grandchildren, Mitch, MacKenzie, Sophie, Grace, Ricky, Cassie Jo and Amelia; siblings, Sidney (Francis) of Cokato, Alice Mosley of Pease and John (Brenda) of Milaca; also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Greg Homstad.
