Mass of Chrisitan Burial for Marion A. Katke, age 68, of Milaca, will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Milaca with Fr. James Remmerswaal O.S.C. officiating. Visitation from 5 to 8 PM on Tuesday at the St. Mary’s Church and 1 hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Interment will be in the St. Mary’s Church Cemetery. Music will be provided by Nancy Boecher, Dan and Julie Edgren, Debbie Barland, Gloria Schoening and the St. Mary’s Choir. Casketbearers will be Patrick Johnson, Allen Zens, Jason Oakes, Leon Schoumaker, Matthew Zidar and John Olund. Honorary casketbearers will include Joshua Zidar, Art Schoening, Edward Wentzlaff and Roger Diethelm. Arrangements are with the Peterson Johnson Funeral Home.
Marion died on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at the North Memorial Hospital from the results of a car accident.
She was born on May 11, 1941 to Raymond and Mildred (Sampson) Johnson in Borgholm Township. She attended District 30 Country School and graduated from Milaca High School in 1959. After high school, Marion worked for a short time at Telex Telephone Company in Minneapolis. Soon after, Marion was united in marriage to Roland A. Katke on June 3, 1960 at the St. Kathryn’s Catholic Church in Ogilvie. In 1963, they purchased a dairy farm in Borgholm Township where they operated the family farm for 32 years. Marion helped run the farm and worked several jobs including Fingerhut, Paul’s Bakery, Fairview Home Care and retiring after 20 years at Fairview Hospital. Marion enjoyed making coffee for friends, cooking, baking, painting and entertaining family at Thanksgiving, Christmas and Super Bowl parties. Her hobbies were reading, sewing dish towels, snowmobiling with family, fishing trips to Canada, anything outdoors, volunteering at church and making people happy. Most of all, Marion loved music and played the organ at St. Mary’s and St. Louis churches.
She is survived by her husband, Roland; 2 daughters, Cynthia and husband David Zidar of East Bethel, MN, Christina Katke of Blaine; 2 sons, John and wife Joyce of Foley and Randy and wife Brandi of Milaca; 7 grandchildren, Matthew, Joshua and Jennifer Zidar, Koko Katke, Nicole and Kelsey Katke and Zoey and Kalysta Katke; 2 sisters, Betty (Ray) Edgren of Milaca and Delores (Jerry) Lindstrom of Shakopee; 2 brothers, Robert (Ann) Johnson of Milaca and Edward (Linda) Johnson of Milaca; sister-in-law, Renee Schoumaker of Milaca; also by many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Mildred Johnson and brother-in-law, Ben Schoumaker.
