Funeral services for Mary Mattson, age 90, of Milaca, will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Milaca with Father Richard Flom officiating. Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM on Wednesday at Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca and 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Friday, February 12 at 9:30 AM. Casketbearers will include David Lazorik, Wayne Lazorik, Greg Lazorik, Paul Lazorik, Greg Reed and Tony Reed. Arr. Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca. Mary Mattson was born February 1, 1920 in Minneapolis, MN to Michael and Anastasia (Merciniak) Lazorik. She graduated from Milaca High School in 1938. She was united in marriage to Martin Mattson on March 9, 1944 in Dayton, Ohio. After the war, Mary and Martin returned to Milaca. They resided there for the rest of their lives. Mary worked at the Henry Clinic in Milaca. Her outstanding commitment and services were to: the American National Red Cross, American Legion Post 178, the Mental Health Advisory Committee, and the Milaca Historical Society. Mary was a member of the Saint Mary’s Russian Orthodox Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She died on Friday, February 5, 2010 at the Heritage House in Milaca. Mary will be deeply missed for her kindness, thoughtfulness, constant caring and her unselfish generosity towards her family, friends, and whoever needed a helping hand or cup of coffee. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and two sisters in law, Grace and Marion Lazorik. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Anna, brothers, Peter, Mike, Frank, and Paul.
