Donna Marie Kiel

Funeral services for Donna Kiel, age 81, of Milaca, will be held at 10 AM on Friday, March 5, 2010 at the Christian Reformed Church in Pease with Rev. David Smit officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, March 4, 2010 from 5-8 p.m. at the church and also one hour prior to services at the church. Music will be provided by Dorothy Brink and Tracy Kiel. Casketbearers will be Tim Kiel, Tom Kiel, Larry Kiel, Don Van Someren, Ron Van Someren, and Andy Someren. Interment will follow at Baldwin Cemetery in Baldwin, WI. Memorials are preferred to Christian Reformed World Relief Committee. Arr. Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home of Milaca. www.pjfuneralhome.com Donna Marie (Van Someren) Kiel was born on March 20, 1928 in Baldwin, Wisconsin to John and Dora (Helders) Achterhof. Donna was united in marriage to Gary Van Someren on July 6, 1948 in Baldwin, Wisconsin. Together, they had four children: Dianne, Ronald, Donald, and Andrew. Gary preceded her in death on February 22, 1964. She later married Laurence Kiel on March 28, 1969. They resided in Pease, Minnesota. Donna owned and operated the Pease Café with Laurence. She was well-known for her delicious pies! Donna was a member of the Christian Reformed Church of Pease. She was active in Ladies Aide and enjoyed singing in the choir. She was also a member of the Gideon’s Women’s Auxiliary. Some of her pastimes were reading the Bible, baking, gardening, fishing, embroidery, piano playing, singing, and playing Scrabble. After retirement, Donna and Laurence moved to Milaca. Survivors include her husband, Laurence Kiel of Milaca, MN; children, Dianne Rensenbrink of Warroad, MN; Ronald (Linda) Van Someren of Las Vegas, NV; Donald (Lynn) Van Someren of Milaca, MN; Andrew (Carol) Van Someren of Milaca, MN; Larry (Denise) Kiel of Breezy Point, MN; Tom (Kris) Kiel of Milaca; Tim (Jeanne) Kiel of St. Cloud, MN; and Linda Kiel of Kentwood, MI; twenty-one grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Myra Van Someren of Baldwin, WI and Marilyn (Clarence) Weavers of Baldwin, WI; also by many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, sister Mildred (Peabody) Omann and brother Myron Achterhof. Her sister Evelyn (DeYoung) Stelsel also passed away on March 2, 2010.
