Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 12 at 11 a.m. at Milaca Evangelical Free Church. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday at Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home in Milaca and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Interment will be at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Milaca.
Mr. Dale Gerald Vanderpoel was born August 21, 1927 to Nickolas and Beatrice(Gallinger) Vanderpoel at Clinton Minnesota. As a young child he moved with his family to Detroit Lakes and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1946. He attended Trinity College and Seminary in Minneapolis for one year, then went to Oak Hills Bible College and graduated from there in 1952.
He married Alyce Mae Hanson on August 31,1947 at her parents home near Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. The couple had two sons, Timothy and Daniel. He served as pastor of Mission Churches at Rochert, Vernon Center, and Mankato, Minnesota, and Grafton, North Dakota. In 1959 the couple moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota where he drove for the Zephyr Bus Line for 15 years before buying the Princeton Oil Company, Inc. which included the Phillip 66 service station and bulk plant, as well as, the cafe in Milaca known as the Sportsmen. They had the Hi-Way Cafe in Milaca for 15 years and during that time helped many young people start their first job. For 10 years he has driven Van for the DAC and very much enjoyed the work with the clients and staff there. He also enjoyed play games, visiting with people, and spending time with his family.
He has been an active member in the Milaca Evangelical Free Church for 32 years, having served on the Deacon Board and teaching Sunday School. He was also an active member in the Gideons International, serving as secretary many years, having Chapel services at Elim Home, and going to churches to present the Gideon work. Dale died on Sunday, March 7, 2010 at the Princeton Elim Home.
He is survived by his wife, Alyce, two sons and their wives, Timothy (Linda), of Princeton, and Daniel (Cindy) of Hutchinson; three Granddaughters, Melissa (Terry) Nicolas of Becker, Minn., Katie Vanderpoel of Princeton and Lindsay Adams of Cheyenne, Wyoming; one grandson Daniel Dean of Hutchinson; one step-granddaughter Stephanie Gulliekson (Andy) of Belview, Minn.; two great granddaughters, Angelina Adams of Cheyenne, Wyoming; Kenley Nicolas of Becker, Minn., one Great Grandson, Kaden Nicolas of Becker, Minn., 2 Step Great Grandsons Michael and Jay, Goldenstien, of Kerkoven, Minn. 1 Sister-in-law, Bernice Vanderpoel of Detroit Lakes, Minn. and a host of nephew, nieces, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters. Pearl Roberts of Detroit Lakes, Minn. and Vera Young of Clinton, Minn., 2 brothers, Lyle of Everett, WA and Glenn of Detroit Lakes, Minn. and an infant baby brother.
