Clarice Helen Slegers, age 97, of Elk River, formerly of Milaca, died Monday, April 12 at Guardian Angels Care Center in Elk River. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, April 16 at 11 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Milaca with Fr. Jim Remmerswaal, OSC officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Casketbearers will include Dan Colwell, Jeremy Lawson, Al Pfannenstein, Michael Pfannenstein. Music will be provided by Anne Carlson and the St. Mary’s Choir. Arr. Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home of Milaca.
Clarice Helen Slegers was born November 13, 1912 in Minneapolis, MN to George and Amelia (Rauch) Sommers. She attended the Minnesota School of Business earning a degree in accounting. She was united in marriage to Joseph J. Slegers on July 12, 1942 in Minneapolis MN. In 1952, they moved to rural Milaca. Clarice worked at First National Bank of Milaca, Foreston Creamery, The Milaca Veterinary Clinic and Anderson Accounting. She did the accounting and secretarial work for St Mary’s for many years for Father Mehr and Father Rausch. After Joseph’s death in 1980 she moved into Milaca. In 2000, she moved to Guardian Angels by the Lake in Elk River and then into Guardian Angels Care Center. She was a talented artist and in her retirement she started painting on china and produced 1st communion items for the children of St Mary’s for many years for Father John. Clarice also painted many watercolor pictures. She was also a 4-H leader for the Brookside 4-H Club for many years.
She is survived by her son, Don (Karen) Slegers of Milaca; daughter, Judy Billmark of Ramsey; grandchildren, Lisa (Al) Pfannenstein, Kimberly Slegers, Heidi Slegers, and Kaycie Billmark; great-grandson: Michael Pfannenstein; also by many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; Joseph; one brother; six sisters and one grandson.
