Funeral services for Leroy M. Uecker, age 79, of Milaca, will be held at 11 AM on Friday, April 30, 2010 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Milaca with Rev. David Hahn and Rev. Marvin Blaske. Interment will be in the Minnesota State Veteran’s Cemetery in Little Falls, MN. Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM on Thursday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Milaca with a prayer service at 7 PM and 1 hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. His grandchildren will serve as casketbearers for the service. Arr. Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home of Milaca.
Leroy Martin Uecker was born August 26, 1930 to Henry and Anna (Beich) Uecker in Gaylord, Minnesota. He graduated from Gaylord High School in 1948. He entered the US Air Force and served until 1951. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, he enrolled at Dunwoody Institute to study auto mechanics. He was united in marriage to Carol Mae Elsie Cronk on September 10, 1955 at Crawford Lake Lutheran Church. The couple resided on the family farm for a short time. They moved to Waverly and then to Gaylord where they resided until 1981, when they moved to Milaca. In November 2006, Leroy moved to the Heritage House in Milaca. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Milaca and enjoyed discussing his Christian faith with his pastors. He enjoyed Minnesota sports, especially the Minnesota Twins. He liked spending time outdoors, fishing and camping and traveling. He also loved spending time with his family and taking Sunday drives. Leroy passed away at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale on Monday, April 26, 2010 at the age of 79 years and 8 months.
He is survived by four daughters, Cheryl (Mike) Heidinger of Elk River, MN, Jeannine (Jim) Wills of Alden, MN, Lori (Kevin) Torgerson of Stewartville, MN, and Vicki (Doug) Visser of Milaca, MN; seven grandchildren, Dustin Heidinger and friend Samantha Miller, Joshua Wills and friend Emily Arp, Nick Torgerson and friend Ali Aukes, Marissa Torgerson, Michael Schummer and fiance Danielle Ebert, Angela Schummer, and Ashley Visser; brothers, Orville (Rubie) Uecker of Gaylord, Milton (Ruth) Uecker of Glencoe and Milo (Jackie) Uecker of Bird Island; sisters-in-law, Lydia Uecker of Gaylord, Bernette Uecker of Green Isle and Corrine Uecker of Gaylord; also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carol in 2006 and three brothers, Rueben, Wally and Hank.
