Les Rens, age 85, of Milaca, passed away on Saturday, June 5, 2010 of a massive heart attack. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at the Christian Reformed Church in Pease with Rev. David Smit officiating. Interment will follow at the Dawn Valley Cemetery in Bloomington, MN. Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM on Tuesday and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday both at the Christian Reformed Church in Pease. Music will be provided by Lois Roelofs. Casketbearers will include Jason Amend, Chris Culhane, Brian Nelson, Jake Rens, Matt Rens and John Welter.
Les Alvin Rens was born August 23, 1924 to Henry and Alma (Hofman) Rens in Baldwin, WI on a small dairy farm. He was united in marriage to Marlys Bol on April 16, 1947 in Baldwin and soon after moved to Modesto, CA, where he worked as an electrician. After a few years, they returned to Midwest living in the Minneapolis area, where he worked as a self-employed carpenter until he retired. After forty-nine years of marriage his first wife, Marlys, passed away. During his retirement, he continued to enjoy woodworking, making bookcases for Calvary Church and their Christian School where they worshiped. He also made pieces of furniture for many of his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed spending his winters in Sun City, AZ, where he later met Vi (VandenEinde) at West Valley Christian Fellowship where they both worshiped. They were married in March 2000 in Sun City, AZ and spent ten years together in marriage before he died. Les enjoyed fishing, reading, playing cards, golfing and spending time with friends. He had a tender heart and a great love for his Lord, family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Vi of Milaca; children, Sharon (Jeff) Welter of Burnsville, Jerry (Debbie) Rens of Waverly, Sue (Steve) Culhane of North Mankato and Brad (Deanna) Rens of Bloomington; step-children, Barb (Bruce) Ruis of Denver, CO, Dallas (Joann) VandenEinde of Grand Rapids and Jerry VandenEinde of Bailey, CO; sixteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; twin-brother, Leslie of Baldwin, WI; sisters, Rozella of Baldwin, WI and Vi of Colorado Springs, CO; also by many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Marlys; half-brothers, Peter, Jim and Earl Van Someron; half-sister, Rena Sandfort and baby brother, Alvin Rens.
