Funeral services for Gary Timmer, age 66, of Milaca, will be held on Friday, July 2 at 11 AM at the Christian Reformed Church in Pease with Pastor David Smit officiating. Visitation will be from 5 – 8 PM on Thursday at the Christian Reformed Church in Pease and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Music will be provided by Dorothy Brink and Peggy Swenson. Casketbearers will include Steve Timmer, Duane Timmer, Jeff Timmer, Aaron Anderson and Chris Kolkind. Honorary casketbearers will include Jerry Myren, Dave Myren and Mike Myren. Military honors will be provided by Hansen-Hayes American Legion Post #178 and Siemers-Hakes VFW Post #10794. Interment will be at the Pease Cemetery. Arr. Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home of Milaca.
Gary Douglas Timmer was born February 13, 1944 in Milaca, MN to Fred and Jeanette (Vugteveen) Timmer. He attended the Pease Christian School through the 8th grade and then attended Milaca High School. He married Carol Wilken on June 7, 1963 and they made their home in Pease. In 1966, Gary entered the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany for over two years. After returning from Germany, he was stationed in Texas and Carol joined him there until he was honorably discharged in January 1969. Gary returned to Pease and farmed with his brother, Don, until health problems forced him to stop farming. Gary and Carol then moved to a home on the Rum River near Milaca. Gary worked for ECM Publishers for the last 20 years as a truck driver. He was a long standing member of the Christian Reformed Church in Pease. Gary was also a member of the Hansen-Hayes American Legion Post #178 in Milaca and was a past commander. Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with friends and family. His pride and joy were his grandchildren. Gary died on Monday, June 28, 2010 at Fairview University Hospital in Minneapolis after a battle with a severe lung disease.
He is survived by his wife, Carol of Milaca; daughter, Tammie (Ray) Pliscott of Osceola, WI; son, Douglas (Resha) of Milaca; six grandchildren, Ashley, Laura, Amber, Johnny, Zack and Logan; brothers, Don (Margaret) of Milaca, Loren (Joyce) of Milaca and Russell (Shirley)of Oconomowoc, WI; also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Doris and an infant daughter, Shari Lynn.
