Funeral services for Joy D. Currier will be held Wednesday, July 07, 2010 at the Milaca Elim Home Chapel at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Tom Sahlstrom officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services. Music will be provided by Marilyn Anderson. Casketbearers will be Tom Rohman, Pete Rohman, Dan Rohman, Bob Rohman, Matt Rohman, Brandt Rohman, and Trevor Rohman. Interment will take place at the Forest Hill Cemetery.
Joy Denver Currier was born March 17, 1919 on a farm near Cresbard, South Dakota to Charles and Mattie (Constantine) Currier. She graduated from Cresbard High School as salutatorian. She was active in school activities: orchestra, band, chorus, basketball, and school plays. She later graduated from business college in Chillicothe, Missouri to follow her dream of being a secretary. She started her career in a small department store. She then became secretary at the Mobil Oil Company in Huron, South Dakota. Later, she became personal secretary to a manager of Scony Mobil Company, where she worked until retirement.
Joy enjoyed traveling with her parents, going through 48 states. She enjoyed the times she and her dad went to local baseball games. She enjoyed her two Siamese cats, Ming and Tammy. She belonged to the Methodist Church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She moved to Milaca in 2004 and resided at Centennial Terrace to be close to her family. She attended the Milaca Evangelical Free Church. She met new friends and enjoyed the many family gatherings with all of her nieces and nephews.
Joy passed away Sunday, July 04, 2010 at the age of 91 years, 3 months, and 17 days at the Milaca Elim Home.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her sister, Jean (Junior) Rohman of Milaca; niece, Ginger (Dan) Jones of Arizona; nephews, Bob (Jane) Rohman of Milaca, Dan (Kim) Rohman of Milaca, Pete (Pam) Rohman of Plymouth, MN, and Tom (Lynn) Rohman of South Haven, MN; nine great nieces and nephews; five great-great nieces and nephews; and dear close friend, Dorothy Schultz of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
