June Lorraine Mattson

Funeral services for June Mattson, age 91, of Milaca, will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2010 at 2 PM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Milaca with Rev. Tim Bauer officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery in Milaca. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Casketbearers will include Neal Narveson, Paul Narveson, Bruce Swanson, Larry Gardiner, Garth Schulz and Courtland Mattson. Arr. Peterson-Johnson Funeral Home of Milaca June Lorraine Mattson was born June 22, 1919 in Milaca, MN to Elmer and Viola (Elmer) Gardiner. She grew up in Milaca and graduated from Milaca High School in 1937. She married Elmer Mattson on September 3, 1938 and they made their home in Milaca where they raised their four children. June worked for 20 years at the North Star Garage in Milaca. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Milaca where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and was involved in the women’s circles. In 1981, June and Elmer began wintering in San Diego, CA in their mobile home near their son, Phil. The couple continued to do this for 14 years. They made many friends at St. Andrew’s Church in San Diego, where they were active in the retirement group known as the “Keenagers”. June was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer in 1998. In May 2003, June moved to the Milaca Hi-Rise Apartments. She enjoyed crocheting crafts and made crocheted toys and afghans. June loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She died on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at the Mille Lacs Nursing Home in Onamia. She is survived by her children, Glorya (Don) Narveson of Baxter, MN, Donald (Dianne) of Mora, Philip of San Diego, CA and Sharon Tierney of Boulder City, NV; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; also by many nieces, nephews and many friends from Milaca. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; sisters, Jesse Sauter, Dorris Swanson and Elora Miller; brother, Bud Gardiner; daughter-in-law, Debbie Mattson and son-in-law, Ralph Tierney.
